Today we had a very important visit to Camp Humphreys. It was eye-opening on a political and economic level. It was a pleasure to be able to interact with a three-star general. Even better, he is from around Pittsburgh! His stories were deeply inspiring, but also heart-wrenching. Hearing from someone who has been in the army for almost 30 years was insightful. He talked about qualities that made him successful in the army. He talked about being humble, listening to others, and much more. It is important to take his words into account as it can help me further myself as a person as well as a professional.
After our time with the General, we went to the engineering company in the camp to get a tour of the vehicles they use. We saw equipment that had incredible technology. One of the vehicles we saw could clear a path by shooting out a 150-meter string of C4. Another vehicle called the husky, is a scout vehicle that can sense the density of the soil to identify explosives. The technology is astounding. After this, we went on a tour of the camp. It is absolutely massive. It is 3.3 million square feet. It is like a little America.
I did not know much about the army before my visit today, but now I feel I have gained valuable information on the defensive activities of the United States and allied countries. In addition, I got to see the people it affects. This includes the people who are in the army, their families, and the people who they are protecting. There are so many things that affect business globally, and how countries interact can have a major effect on that. In addition, the military defense industry is a business all of its own. I was able to draw many conclusions from the wonderful visit I had at camp Humphreys today.
