Today we had our first site visit at TTT corporation in the Binh Duong province of Vietnam. TTT Corporation is an interior design architectural company that operates strictly high-end buildings in Vietnam and Cambodia. TTT works on projects with the best quality hotels designing certain room structures and furniture that is requested. We were introduced to the company by two of the project managers on-site who gave us insight into some projects the company is currently working on. TTT has two factories working on projects across the country with hundreds of workers contributing to cutting, shaping, polishing, and painting the furniture for their clients. These project managers have to attribute several factors including sustainability and designing within set government standards in their projects.
However, in terms of TTT’s focus, I think sustainability is relatively low. I understood on the site visit that TTT is a relatively new company with it being established in 1992 and there are several avenues towards sustainability I could see TTT implementing into their factories. On the site visit, part of the process we were introduced to was where they cleaned the sawdust and excess wood off of their products. They did this by having a fast-flowing water stream and running the products through before being painted in another part of the factory. A sustainable practice they can implement is using a renewable energy source to filter the high amount of water they are using to clean their products before painting the furniture. The amount of pressure and surface area the water flow covers to clean off the wood products is not efficient or sustainable because so much of that water is being wasted in the process. If that water can be filtered at the bottom separating the debris and dust, it can be used for a multitude of purposes in the factory, ultimately creating a more sustainable and efficient practice in the factory.
