Our site visit to PECC2 was incredible! PECC2 is an energy consulting company that works to promote and use renewable energy in different ways. Once we arrived at their beautiful, modern building, we were able to listen to a presentation about their projects and their role in the development of Vietnam. It was so interesting to see how their company has such an important role in the country’s development. Vietnam has plans to be Net Zero by 2050, and clean, renewable energy is at the core of that goal. After this presentation, we were able to visit the operating room for all of PECC2’s power plants. We were given a talk about how all of the different types of renewable energy require different supervision and attention. PECC2 monitors wind turbines and hydro turbines. During this second stage of the visit, we were able to have personal conversations with the higher ups at PECC2. I received valuable insight on not just business ventures in Vietnam, but what it takes to manage and operate a business on a global scale.
This visit was significant to me because the company operates in investment, consultancy, and business. Most of their work is designed to fulfill Vietnam’s Net Zero goal. This was compelling to me because they have specific plans that stretch until 2050. For example, the company has a goal to have solar energy to power 50% of the homes in Vietnam. This goal is ambitious, like many of their other goals, but they have what it takes to complete the task due to their adaptability. SECC2 has the ability to focus on construction, planning, investing, or consulting. Because they have all of these tools, SECC2 can switch from tool to tool when they need to in order to succeed and reach their goals. Another element they excel at is their knowledge. After listening to their representatives speak and having conversations with them, it is clear that this company is full of intellectuals who are able to solve problems. The entire visit helped my understanding of development because I was able to see a firm that focuses on development in action. Professional development is unique from case to case, but there are clear elements that stay consistent. Being able to watch successful companies work on these projects gives me a great perspective that I can use when looking into or working on development in the future!
