Day 4 – Making Vietnam a Better Place

Our fourth day in Vietnam started out flipped than the past few days, as we started with a company visit. Today’s visit took us to the Vinacapital Foundation, where we learned about what they are and what they do. The foundation works to help the people of Vietnam, specifically the children of Vietnam that are in need. One of the things they focus on is giving heart surgery and cancer treatment to underprivileged children across the country. They also work to protect girls in underdeveloped areas that are very poorly treated by the men in the area. The work to educate these girls and allow them to go to school and university, which almost none of these children get to do. They also help to provide clean water to those in need all around the country that aren’t able to get it. These solutions to problems have proven to be very helpful and have aided many Vietnamese in need. These issues are very important to the company and also the government, and the foundation are helping the country by solving these problems. These problems are also not unlike those seen in the U.S. and around the world, and I think that other companies can take inspiration from Vinacapital Foundation in their approach and solutions to problems in Vietnam.

After the site visit, we went to lunch at a beautiful restaurant before heading back to UEF for more classes. We had a language class where we learned numbers and how to bargain which will be very helpful when visiting the markets around the city. After the language class we had a history and culture course where we were able to try some food, listen to music, and see the traditional dress of Vietnam. They also gave us traditional hats which we were able to paint with Vietnamese design.

Overall it was yet another very enjoyable day and I’m just so thankful that I’ve been able to go on this trip.
