A Day at Yonsei University

Today, we spent the majority of our day touring Yonsei University. For breakfast at the hotel, they always have small probiotic drinks that we take, and we just realized this morning that they have Yonsei Yogurt written on the side of them. As it turns out, Yonsei University has many of its own dairy products.

Before the first tour started, most of us went to the university store where we all bought some Yonsei University merchandise. Our first tour was mainly outside explaining what each building was. Some things that were interesting were that the way the library was built resembles books on a bookshelf, and also the garden in the center of the administrative buildings is shaped to look like a British flag. It is shaped like this to honor the first president and the founder of the university, Horace Grant Underwood, who came from the UK and dedicated his life to bringing Christianity to Korea.

Next, we were given a tour of the electrical engineering building and then the biomedical engineering building. When touring the biomedical building, we were shown and informed on how they are using mice in their studies by analyzing their brains.

We ended by having a conversation with a recent graduate of Yonsei University where we talked about our trip to Korea so far, what we have done, and some of the things we have on our itinerary for the coming days.

At night, me and a few others decided to walk around on the streets near our hotel where I bought something from the street food stands for the first time on this trip. I had already ate dinner, so I just got more of a dessert food, Tanghulu, which is just fruit on a stick covered in a glossy shell of sugar. I plan on getting more real food from the street food in the coming days, but the Tanghulu was very good.
