Korea: Yonsei and Chicken

Today we finally got to visit one of the locations I’ve been looking forward to going to: Yonsei University. After six stops along the way, the subway finally arrived at our stop, and the campus was only a short walk away from there. We arrived quite early so we got some free time before starting our tour so me and a few others headed down to the university store to buy some merchandise.

I already knew that I wanted one of the jackets I saw many of the students wearing, and it took a good few minutes to find one in my size. Thankfully, I was able to try it on and to my delight it fit perfectly. It only cost ₩66,000 as well which was lower than I was expecting.

When we returned to the surface (the store itself was underground), the group was greeted by our tour guides who showed us around the university. All of us were split up into three groups, and the one I was with got put with a young male student at Yonsei who was very nice. His English was also really good which surprised me as even though many people here do speak English to a degree, I don’t expect them to be nearly as fluent as he was.

The next few hours consisted of us getting a few tours around the campus itself while also having a stop for lunch. I had a bowl of soup which was very similar to pho even though it wasn’t advertised as such. I was also able to get a strawberry banana smoothie after blindly clicking through a kiosk in Korean as I could only hope I was clicking the correct buttons on the screen.

The final part of our tour at Yonsei consisted of us getting a tour of their BioTech department where we got to see the research they were doing up close. It was very interesting to see actual lab rats for the first time, as I usually associate them only with movies. The STEM cell research was also cool to see, although it looked a little too complicated for me to try and even understand.

After Yonsei, we were given free time and for the most part this is where my night ended. Me and a few others did go to this one chicken place which had just about the best curry chicken I’ve ever had, but other than that I’ve taken the night to rest.

Tomorrow is an early day at the DMZ, but I’m looking forward to going to such an interesting location.
