Day 4: Two Company Visits

Today we visited the two companies Grob and Forvia. Both companies were equally as engaging and gave me significant insights into various industries and sectors.

First thing in the morning, we arrived at Grob and were given a lecture on an overview of the company as well as what types of products and services they provide. Grob is an international company with production plants in Germany, Brazil, China, USA, and Italy. I found it interesting to learn about the diverse types of sectors that Grob provides products for. Working with customers to provide solutions for their needs, Grob produces different machines for manufacturing lines, assembly systems, electromobility products, and industrial electric motors to name a few. From aerospace to automotive industries the wide range of products that Grob produces is impressive.

After learning more about the company and the products they manufacture we took a tour of the factory. The factory consisted of a couple of different buildings where specific products for sectors are produced. For example, a building was dedicated to the production of electromotive parts. Grob is a company that I would be honored to work for as their company culture and facilities seem to support their employees’ needs. On the site they showed us their healthcare center where they have doctors available and massages!

For lunch, we ate at the Grob employee lunchroom. I tried a meal that I was unsure of as I had never eaten anything that looked like that before. To my surprise, it was a flavorful lentil stew that I ended up loving.

Next, we visited the company Forvia. Known for producing car parts, this company was particularly interesting due to the use of machinery and robots to manufacture complex products. I loved putting on a white lab coat, shoe covers, and safety goggles for the factory tour! My favorite part of the factory tour was watching the blue machines quickly move and weld metal elements of the finished product from one part of the facility to another.

Overall, I really enjoyed the factory / company tours from both Grob and Forvia as it gave me insight into how international specifically German-based companies value their employees and effectively maintain a positive company culture.
