Today was such a fun day at the Don Silvano ranch! When we arrived I immediately noticed how friendly the staff was and how beautiful everything was at the ranch. We had a welcome reception where we got a snack which you can probably guess… more empanadas! After, I decided to go with a few friends on a horse carriage ride around parts of the ranch, and it was definitely a bumpy ride, but so fun and we got to see so many animals and lots of scenery. We walked around for a bit and petted some horses next, and were also approached by the ranch cat which we named Fernando. Then we did some zip lining before heading to lunch. Lunch was filled with lots of music, dancing, good food, and lots of laughing. I had such a good time watching the different performances on the stages and getting to converse with my friends. Once we finished this we went into a small store that had all sorts of handmade items that were very interesting and we got some souvenirs to take home with us.
To finish off this long but adventurous day, we headed to the field to sit and watch the guacho show which was fascinating. The gaucho culture holds profound significance in Argentina as it embodies much of the nation’s identity and heritage. It emerged as skilled horsemen and cattle herders in the plains during the 18th century, and gauchos became figures in Argentina’s struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. They often symbolize bravery, resilience, and a deep connection to the land. Their lifestyle and traditions represent Argentine society, influencing music, literature, cuisine, and art. Gauchos remain revered as cultural icons, with their legacy serving as a reminder of Argentina’s rich cultural history. It was so exciting to watch them do tricks with the horses, ride around, and when they played a traditional game where they try catch a ring on their spear and if they do, they get to choose someone to kiss, and if you are married or together with someone and you are both at the show, your partner has to kiss the horse, and if you are not you have to kiss the guacho. It was so fun to experience something like that in person. Before departing we got a sweet snack, and tea.
To finish off this post, tomorrow is mothers day, and I wanted to recognize my mom and wish her a great day tomorrow. I wish I could be there with her but I want her to have the best day regardless. She works very hard so that she and my dad can give me the opportunities they do, like to be able to go on this trip. She is my inspiration, and is always filling my days at home with fun and happy moments that always last in my memory. I am very grateful for her and all that she does. Love you mom!
