Day Seven In Heaven

Hey guys! Today is Saturday and we went on a double-decker bus in Birmingham. It was so cool because I’ve never been on a double-decker bus before. The bus was red and the seats were actually really comfortable. We got to listen to  some music on the bus, and it was so fun to dance to our favorite songs. I was so happy because today we got to walk around, and that is what I was looking forward to the most.

We arrived at the Black Country Living Museum. It was 1950s themed, so many people dressed to fit the era. This museum is all about coal and mining which was very odd yet intriguing. The first thing we did was travel inside a mine. I was so excited. All my friends are with me and we got to explore!

We entered the cave and walked down into a pitch black area. The darkness was a little scary. We were in groups of four and one person had a flashlight. The mine was very interesting as we got to go to the deepest point underground. The way to get out of the mine was a well and I was surprised to learn that it fit twelve people at a time. We had to wear a hat to protect our heads. The ceiling dipped as low as four feet!

Next, we went to an old school classroom where properness was to be expected. The “teacher” played his part and made the experience as real as possible by calling out all the girls with her nails done. He also called up all the people with tattoos and made everyone say “Shame on you!”. This was just for the experience of course and it made most of us laugh! Unfortunately, I was talking too much and laughing; I was punished by being sent to the corner with my hands on my head for five minutes. He also taught us how to say our ABCs backwards which I found extremely interesting!

After that, we all got some free time to explore. We got a couple rides and played some games. I even shot a BB gun- I wasn’t half bad. We proceeded to venture to an area that had tents with vintage clothes and accessories available for purchase. I found an awesome shirt with the Beatles on it! I was happy because it was something that represented where I am currently visiting (the United Kingdom). We also got ice cream which was very refreshing and made my day.

While exploring, we got to go into models of old houses. It was very interesting to see what people in the 1950s lived like. I loved the set up they presented of the living room.

Lastly, some of the girls went out to dinner at a burger restaurant. The food was to die for and we all had a great time! I am so excited to go to Oxford tomorrow.

See you again for my next post!
