This morning we started our day with an hour’s drive to the ranch of Don Silvano. When we first arrived we were met by the lady in charge of the ranch as well as many mosquitoes. Mosquitoes have been swarming us the entire trip but today was the worst of it. We didn’t let that get in the way of having a great day on the ranch though. For about half an hour we spent time just exploring the grounds we then had a welcome reception where we were given some delicious empanadas. After a quick snack, we headed over to the horse carriage ride which was a little scary since every time we turned I almost fell out! We got to see llamas and sheep on the cool ride. After our exciting ride, we explored more and got to hang out with a very cute cat, which we named Fernando, and also got to pet many horses. We then went on one of those obstacle courses in the trees and at the end there was a zipline.
After our exciting morning, we headed into our 2-hour lunch experience. About every 15 minutes we were served a new type of meat. I’m not the most adventurous eater but I tried everything, my favorite was the roast they brought out at the end. During our meal, there was live music and they had us get up and really fun dance. There were people there from many different countries so they sang a song from each country, the guy sang “Can’t Help Falling In Love” for the United States song.
After lunch, we headed to the last event of the day which was a Gaucho show. Gaucho is very important to Argentina. In the late 18th century gauchos roamed the pampas outside of Buenos Aires in search of wandering herds of cattle and horses. In 1810 during the war against Spain for their independence the reputation of the gaucho took a seriously different and well-deserved turn. These gauchos became a key part of the revolutionary force that won independence from Spain. Their intimate knowledge of the terrain of the Argentinian pampas worked to their advantage and made the gaucho the perfect freedom fighter in the war. The country will never forget their self-sacrifice in that war, making them national symbols of honor, bravery, and freedom.
Before I end this blog I want to give a special shoutout to my mom since tomorrow is Mother’s Day and unfortunately, I won’t be able to be with her. My mom has been my biggest supporter all my life. She is always the first person there to cheer me on and push me to do my best. She pushes me never to give up easily and has made me a better person for that. The reason I am who I am is because my mom is an amazing, loyal, thoughtful, and kind woman. Love you Mom happy Mother’s Day!
