Today, we took an hour and a half drive to Don Silvano which was a ranch and tourist attraction. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by… the mosquitos. Everyone was very obviously bothered by them and kept swatting them away. We ended up passing around the spray repellent and sprayed it all over our clothes and even our hair. After a while, we eventually got used to them (kind of). According to one of the staff members, bugs do not usually appear during this time of season (it is fall) and she suspects that they came from Brazil. Anyways, we had a light breakfast which was empanadas filled with meat. After finishing our meal, we had free time to explore the ranch. We began by taking a ride on a carriage while a man conducted the horses in the front. We were able to watch the vast greenery and animals on the detour. Then, we explored the farm and found a cat. We named him Fernando and he was very amicable. My friends and I found out that we could zip line so we did that. I thought it was going to be very high off the ground, but it was just a couple feet up. Regardless, it was still very fun to experience and see everyones reaction. During lunch, we ate all sorts of meat while watching performers sing and dance different music from all over Latin America. We even joined in on dancing and had a great time.
Next on the itinerary was the Gaucho show! In Argentina, the Gaucho show is a cultural event that celebrates the traditions of the Gauchos, typically cowboys. These shows are a symbol of national identity and serve as a reminder of cultural preservation. During the show, a man attempts to grab a ring with a spear and if successful they can pick a lady in the audience and ask for a kiss. If the lady already has a suitor, then the man is supposed to kiss the horse. It was an interesting show to watch. On a completely different note, tomorrow is mother’s day. I would like to thank her for continuing to inspire me everyday and offering her unconditional support. Without her, I would not be the person I am today. Everyday is filled with meaningful moments with her.
