Today, we started off by enjoying yet another traditional korean breakfast at our hotel, the Sejong hotel. First up on today’s itinerary was our visit to Yonsei University, a private university in Seoul. When we first arrived a small group of friends and I went to grab coffee and a small snack at a local coffee shop. Then we were escorted around the Yonsei campus by three wonderful tour guides, two of whom were students. I loved the greenery around Yonsei’s campus and was impressed by the size of the university. Then, we ate in the university dining hall. There, we had a traditional Korean student lunch that was amazing. It was definitely a degree above our dining hall food at home. During lunch, I spent a lot of time talking to a Yonsei University senior student, Minu. Talking to him was a great experience and super interesting because he gave me and others insight into differences between college life in Korea and college life in the United States. While there were some similarities, I noticed many differences, like some nuanced differences in the admissions process for college in Korea: and the price! Then we started the second half of our day at Yonsei by touring the school’s engineering facility and seeing a presentation from the engineering dean. While I’m a business major and will not be taking any engineering classes, the presentation and tour were still interesting because I could see how business and engineering are directly related. Finally, we ended off the day at Yonsei with a tour of CellArtgen, a biotech startup created at the university. CellArtgen is doing cutting-edge research on organoids and being able to repair and print real human organs. I thought this was the most fascinating part of the day because of the fact that this was a startup. I had a great time seeing the facility and asking questions about the startup economics of the company and how they run things. Overall it was a great day and I can’t wait for tomorrow!
