Today was the day where everyone was eager to experience the concentration camp tour but also uncertain what to expect. Going in I knew I would get somewhat emotional since my great-grandfather was a prisoner of war in Germany for 5 years. It put everything in a different perspective as our wonderful guide spoke. I think the initial entrance of the camp was shocking and it took a while to truly realize where I was. I was surprised to know that most of the camp has been redone and touched since 1945, but it also had things added to it like a sculpture and several different types of religious buildings. The tour guide was extremely well-spoken and gave information that was not too overwhelming but enough that I could wrap my head around what I was seeing. The section of the tour that really got me was the gas chamber. The pictures, the smell, the size, and the stains on the wall were completely not what I had expected. I never really understood what the work camps were like compared to the termination camps, but after the tour ended, I was delighted to have the right information about Dachau.
