Today we had two company visits. We visited Hyundai and TK elevators. We visited the Hyundai plant in Asan. This is around two hours away from Seoul. Once we got to Asan we had an early lunch. This was done to make sure we would have time to eat lunch during our packed schedule. After lunch, we had some free time. I went to an arcade and won a couple of claw machine games.
The first thing we did at Hyundai was watch an introductory video. The video gave a background on the history of Hyundai and what they are doing in the future. Following this we toured the plant. The entire process of making a car was futuristic. There were very few human workers and most of the production was automated. A statistic that I found unbelievable was that they make over 1,100 cars a day. We were able to see the entire process through the pressing, welding, and assembly.
After Hyundai, we went to TK elevators. Their office was incredible. Their culture seems to be strong. Their office had a gym, golf simulator, fish tank, relaxing lounge, and much more. They even let me use the golf simulator. We were able to see their testing facility and production line. The testing facility was a 40-floor tower that tested their elevators. Something I found interesting was the twin elevator. It is TK-patented technology that puts two elevator cars in the same shaft. Their production line used a combination of both robots and workers to create everything from elevator doors to electrical units. Moreover, they seemed very committed to safety. They had a drop test simulator and used it on us. The one I did had a trap door that went into a foam pit. They said the test was used for bad workers. I’m pretty sure everyone is well-behaved!
