Behind the Scenes: Day 9

Today was a very educational yet interesting day. It began around 7 AM for breakfast as usual but with a bit less sleep as I did not sleep great the previous night. After breakfast, our group gathered and headed off to a Hyundai Motors plant to watch a behind-the-scenes of the car-making process and automation as well as learn a bit about Hyundai’s business. The tour was spectacular as we got to see how much smart tech and autonomous robots are used in making a car and how efficiently a billion-dollar factory can run at full speed. My favorite moment of this tour was watching the welding bots send sparks flying and efficiently put together an electric vehicle that will soon be sold for over 40,000 USD. After the Hyundai tour, the group headed on another bus ride to tour TK Elevators, one of the biggest elevator creators and installers in the world. This tour was very extensive as we got to see factories, offices, and even some employees. recreation options in-house such as a basketball court and a golf simulator. Later we got to go up their 40-story tower to see some of the controls of their newest elevators and learn how they test them. The tour concluded with our generous hosts giving us gift bags of their branded merchandise. Today was really a great learning experience and helped us take a peak behind some high-level industries and see how two different industries factories approach their factories and treatment of employees. After the tours concluded we took a long bus ride home and I am really beginning to appreciate these long bus rides as they allow our group to rest between visits and activities along with providing opportunities to connect with other group members. This trip has not only taught me a lot about business but engineering as well, even though it isn’t my field I enjoy taking a look behind the scenes and seeing how companies create their products. Tomorrow I look forward to two more visits and updating my blog for one of the last times this trip!
