Hyundai + TK

Today we had two company visits. The first one was Hyundai and the second was TK elevators. We started off the day with breakfast which was really good. I hadn’t gotten the hotel breakfast for the past few days so it was nice to come back to it. We then headed out to our first site Hyundai and we stopped around noon to get a quick lunch. We ate pretty early and before we did anything because the schedule was packed pretty tight for the rest of the day. When we got to Hyundai we were led to a room where we were shown a brief history of the company, some of the car models they have and their overall mission. There were two newer model cars on display in the main room which were really cool. I’m not super into cars like knowing the different parts and all the model names but I do think cars are extremely interesting, especially newer electric or sports cars. We also took a tour of the facilities at Hyundai and saw the assembly line for the different car parts. It was mostly automated which I found very intriguing. There were still an ample number of workers but for the most part the actual assembly of the cars were automated by large robots.

After Hyundai we travelled to TK elevators which is known for their innovation of elevators moving sideways as well as the traditional up and down. It’s a simple concept but something that is very useful as there are many buildings that could utilize this design very well. We took a tour around their building and got a similar overview of the company. A few students were also interviewed afterwards too about the company and the University of Pittsburgh.

After both visits we headed home and had dinner on our own. My group also worked on our final project that is due later in the week. Tonight was really used to get ready for tomorrow and prepare our final works for this trip. I’m not ready to leave Seoul yet, but I hope to enjoy the remaining few days that I am here.
