Day 9 in Cyprus

Today we had a much different adventure in comparison to all the company visits and time at the beach. We spent most of the day in a town called Kakopetria in the mountains and it was amazing. The town is made up of small older buildings that all have the same unique orange clay roofs. During our free time we decided to go for a hike up one of the mountains and got to see the entire town from the top. It was amazing to see the whole town embedded in the mountains while still being able to see the beach in the distance. At the very top of the hill there was an old bench looking into the distance which made for a great view and picture spot. Kakoptria was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I’m glad we visited.

Before we explored the mountains, we stopped at an old church that was built over 1000 years ago on the way up. The outside looked old but there were lots of people lined up to see the inside which was very much justified. The inside of the church was covered in large paintings all the way up the ceiling and even around the dome going up the center. The paintings depicted different events from the bible like Jesus being crucified for example. The paintings were very old and painted using a water technique so photography in the church was strictly prohibited. This place reminded me a lot of the Sistine chapel with the similar style of artwork and the aging of the paintings which was really cool to see.
