Day 9- The Pagoda Temple & The War Remnants Museum

Today did not consist of a company visit, but rather religion and history. I have grown up Protestant all my life, so learning about Buddhism was extremely interesting to me. I have always enjoyed learning more about religion, but actually getting to be in the country surrounded by people who practice a religion that is different than mine was a really cool experience. A lot of the topics covered during the Buddhism lecture was familiar to me from AP World History. However, I did learn a couple new things like the two types of Buddhism (Theravada and Mahayana), that Buddha’s face resembles the people of the country, and that there is happy Buddha and infant Buddha.

My first thought as we walked into the outside area of the Pagoda Temple was how beautiful it was. It was also really interesting watching Buddhist people worship Buddha. It is so different than any religious practices I am part of and seeing it in person is a different level of understanding than just reading or learning about it.

Then, this afternoon we went to the War Remnants Museum. I can definitely say I left that place with an extremely heavy heart. The horrific acts on inoccent villages and people are atrocious and so disheartening. It was really sad to learn about the past and current effects of agent orange.
