Today we visited and spent the entire day at the Mekong Delta. It meant a lot coming to the Mekong Delta because this was the main place talked about in our Plus3 sessions before coming to Vietnam. The boat ride was super cool; we got coconut water when we were on our way to one of the islands which tasted so good. Entering the island was nothing like I would ever expect. Horses took us to a bunch of places. We saw how coconut candy was made, tried honey straight from bees, ate so many good fruits, held a huge snake, and went on a canal. It was a day full of cultural activities that were both fun and extremely informative. My favorite part of the day definitely was the canal ride. It was super interesting and fun seeing everything live and in person.
I think it’s so interesting how individuals actually live in this location of Vietnam. Our tour guide was explaining to us that the people who live by the Mekong Delta are not poor, nor rich. They don’t strive for higher ends things but utilize the resources that surround them to build a happy and healthy life. This way of living is one I think is very different from individuals who live in places like Ho Chi Minh City. Since the rainy season is coming, this means revenues from tourism will dwindle down. This is one of the downsides to living a life on the Mekong Delta. The individuals revenues are determined by outside factors like weather.
We also visited another pagota. I found this one to be very interesting because it had huge sculptures of Buddha and the rooms were filled with amazing architecture. It is very cool to see different pagota’s and how they differ.
