Day 10: Riding Boats in the Mekong

Today was my favorite day by far. Traveling around the Mekong Delta is one of the main reasons why I wanted to travel to Vietnam, and it absolutely did not disappoint. The first thing that we did as soon as we arrived at the city was board a boat that took us to the first island. While we were on the boat, we were given coconuts to drink out of, and although it was pretty warm, it was still very good. Once we arrived on the island, we walked a little until we saw small horses and carriages. We took the horses up until a point where we walked a little bit more to try honey tea. I am so serious when I say that that tea was one of the best drinks I have EVER had in my entire life. I could honestly write an entire essay about how good that honey tea was and how well the dried bananas paired with it. After the tea stop, we walked for a few minutes until we got to a place where they served different types of fruit that are grown in the Mekong delta region and sang traditional Vietnamese songs. Once we had our fill of songs and fruit, we kept walking until we reached the rowing boat tour. This boat tour was genuinely the main reason why I wanted to go to Vietnam because it seemed so cool. The boat tour definitely lived up to my expectations. It was extremely peaceful, we got to see a lot of cool nature on the tour, and there was a nice, cool breeze floating around the boat the entire time. The boat tour was absolutely a highlight of the trip. Afterwards, we got back on the first boat and played a game where we had to name 3 lettered animals. Once we got to the 2nd island, we had lunch and then explored a little. There were many things to do on that island like run on the water in an inflated ball or feed alligators using a fishing pole. After that, we went back to the bus and saw a famous pagoda and the buddha statues there. Today has been my personal favorite day out of the time we spent here, and I am extremely glad that the Mekong Delta lived up to the expectations I set for it.
