Today, I woke up bright and early for a departure to Asan, a province in South Korea. Our itinerary today featured two company visits to Hyundai and TK Elevators. After a short traditional Korean breakfast at the hotel in the morning, we headed off to the Hyundai Asan Plant. There we had an amazing factory tour of the facility. It was an incredible experience because I got to see the advanced technology that Hyundai uses to manufacture millions of vehicles, one of which I personally drive. I even saw the same model of car that I drive on the assembly line. Seeing a functioning auto assembly line was a great experience I will never forget. What I found especially interesting was the ability of Hyundai to build vehicles using automated systems like robotic arms and autonomous forklifts. Unfortunately, we were prohibited from taking photos inside the manufacturing facility. After Hyundai we had a great short lunch and then headed over to TK Elevators, the world’s 2nd largest elevator manufacturer. I thought this tour was also extremely interesting. We got to see some of the things TK has for their employees, like a 3 bay golf screen simulator and a boutique gym. I even got to try out the golf simulator. Then we checked out the TK test tower where I learned about the patented “Twin Elevator” system TK provides to their customers. We also spent time seeing the elevator manufacturing facilities and checking out TK’s advanced assembly line process, manufacturing tons of elevators and elevator doors every day. Finally, I got to have a thrilling experience by experiencing a simulated elevator fall where the floor dropped out from under me and I landed in a foam pit. I had proper safety equipment on, and I thought the fall was a cool experience and a good way for TK to show their employees the gravity of their work and how important it is to prevent falls. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s activities!
