Today we embarked on a mission to tour the city of San José. Unlike our previous ventures where we boarded our private and luxurious tour bus, this time we tried something new, public transportation. On the way to the country’s capital we took the train and on the way back we took the bus. Both trips were good and I enjoyed them. We had a lunch at a restaurant in San José, it was alright. Then after we got time to work on our final projects with our group.
Coffee and bananas are a big part of Costa Rica and San José proved it. We were able to visit the National Theater where they had paintings of workers with bananas and coffee. Also, even to build the theater they had a relation to coffee. A coffee tax contributed in building it. A lack of street addresses can cause delivery’s to be difficult since there are no specific addresses, instead they are in relation to another place. Also, it makes it tough for foreigner coming to the country for the first time, they would not know how to locate places.
San José and Pittsburgh actually have something in common. Andrew Carnegie donated money to build a building for international conflicts. Even after an earthquake destroyed the building he donated more money to bring it back. The building became known as the “Casa Amarilla.”
In my opinion, I think that the system for San José fails their people. Mostly due to the no address system. San José is a big spot for tourism and without addresses it’s tough for them to figure out where they should be going.
