I can’t believe our trip has already come to an end. I can’t even begin to express how happy and grateful I am to have been able to experience this with all these amazing people. I have learned so much about the Argentine healthcare system and Argentine culture overall over the past 12 days, and it is truly more than I could ever ask for. One of the most important things I have learned over the course of this trip is the importance of the concept of solidarity and healthcare as a human right in Argentina. These two concepts are extremely important to the healthcare system. Solidarity encourages all citizens to care for each other and help each other, which is central to the concept of worker’s unions in Argentina, as they ensure all formally employed workers have access to quality healthcare. Additionally, the declaration of healthcare as a human right in Argentina’s constitution ensures that all citizens, regardless of their employment status, socioeconomic background, or ability to pay, have access to some form of healthcare and have the opportunity to be healthy and thrive. These concepts are found everywhere throughout Argentine government, culture, and society as a whole. I am so beyond grateful to have been able to come to Argentina and learn from these professionals who have made healthcare their live’s work. I will never forget this experience and I can’t wait to come home and tell my family and my girlfriend all about it.
