I learned so much on this trip. Not only about the healthcare systems, but how to be abroad. It was my first time out of the country without parents and I am so glad I took the leap to go. I learned how to work better with my peers through the group project and loved that we all became very close. We started this trip stuck in the airport overnight and I truly wouldn’t have changed the outcome for the world. It allowed us to get to know each other before the trip and made for a great time. In Argentina, we were fortunate enough to visit so many hospitals and attend lectures to learn how the healthcare systems work. The hospital visits gave me such valuable hands on experience that I would not have been able to experience anywhere else. Walking through each of the hospitals in the public and private sectors taught me so much on how they were alike and differed. The lectures helped to reinforce each system and I learned so much hearing from all of the representatives of the Argentine healthcare system. My section was obras sociales which was particularly the hardest. Having to focus in on that for my presentation and overview everything we learned. I also learned how to navigate a new city! After spending two weeks here, I became familiar with the city and enjoyed being able to try new restaurants, spend time with friends, and explore all that Buenos Aires has to offer. Through IES, we were able to explore the history of Argentina through many museum tours, street art tours, and a visit to the ranch. The ranch was probably my favorite activity of the trip. We learned about the history of the ranch, got to go on a carriage ride, try new BBQ meats, and see a gaucho show. I enjoyed learning about the healthcare systems and how they operate, which helped me compare and contrast the system to the U.S. It was best defined that in Argentina healthcare is a right while in the US healthcare is a service. I enjoyed everything I learned during this trip and the friends that I made. I will carry this experience with me throughout my future career and through life.!
