I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from our visits today, but my expectations were exceeded! We arrived in Regensburg after another long bus ride, and began with a walking city tour. Our tour guide gave us so many interesting facts about the city and it was so beautiful to walk through and see all kinds of sites. It was super cool to walk across the bridge and see a beautiful view of the city from a distance, as well as the Danube River. A cool fact I learned was that the Danube River is the second longest in Europe! It was so cool to see a wedding occur at the city hall as we were touring around! It was an amazing and such a fun experience to clap and cheer for the new couple. My favorite part was probably the end of the tour, where we ended at a gorgeous cathedral. It reminded me a little bit of La Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona, which I visited a few years ago.
We had free time in Regensburg for a few hours, and myself and a few others went to Dean and David’s for lunch, which we consider to be the German Roots cafe! I had a really refreshing Caesar salad. After, we did some walking and shopping around the city. One of my overall favorite parts about the trip is getting to walk around and explore during our free time, as it’s so relaxing and not like rushing around on a tour to see everything (although I did greatly enjoy all the tours!). In the last part of our free time, I went inside the cathedral and saw so many beautiful things, like the stained glass windows.
Soon, we left Regensburg for another place called Walhalla. I had genuinely no idea what I was about to see, but when I got to the top of the hill I thought I arrived in Greece! It was what seemed to be a remake of the Parthenon, but this one was to commemorate impactful people in Germany’s history. It was started by King Ludwig II’s father (King Ludwig II was who had Neuschwanstein built). The views that Walhalla overlooked were breathtaking and completely unforgettable. Pictured is a portion of Walhalla and the gorgeous interior.
