Free Day… AUSTRIA!

Today was our free day, so we spent it in Salzburg, Austria! This was such a cool experience because we were able to experience an entire new country for a day! We started with a train ride to Munich then from Munich to Salzburg. I have to mention that the public transportation in Germany and Austria was so nice! Everything is clean, the ride is smooth, and everything is easy to use. They need to bring this way of doing things to the US. Once we got off we all stopped to get more money out of the ATM, because that has become a daily thing. From there we headed to the city. We walked across a gorgeous bridge to get to the main town! We then all split up so everyone can enjoy their day like they wanted. A group of girls including myself started with walking around a massive fountain and taking pictures. From there we got lunch on top of a massive hill in a very nice restaurant (it was a suggestion from one of the German students who is from Salzburg, shoutout Clara)! The food was amazing, Rachel and I split a tradition Austria styled meat dish! From here, we rode a cable car up to a castle where we did some self exploring and picture taking. We had an amazing view of the Alps and the city! After this, we went back down on the cable car and did some shopping. Some people got dessert and others got even more souvenirs! Here, the group split up again, Rachel and I finished up some shopping then did some exploring ourselves. Clara also recommended that we go to the Mirabell Palace, it was the location of a scene from The Sound of Music! Although it was raining, we were able to enjoy all of the views the garden had to offer. We even got to see a rainbow overtop the Alps! From here, we went stopped at a restaurant and met up with more friends. We then all walked back to the train station and headed back to Augsburg! This was an amazing experience because we were able to learn how to travel without a guide. We were even able to navigate in a new country by ourselves. This is something I was so glad I was able to do because it has made me more comfortable with the idea of traveling alone someday!
