My name is Simon Moak, and I am going into electrical engineering next fall. My love for engineering started when I had the opportunity to take a two-year-long concentration course in tenth and eleventh grade that dealt with engineering and physics. I loved that this class gave me the opportunity to apply unique twists to engineering projects like rat trap cars, marshmallow launchers, and hydraulic arms. Although this class did teach me useful skills like using power tools, computer-aided drafting, and the engineering design process, my favorite aspect of this class, and of engineering in general, is being able to collaborate with other engineers. I believe there is great value in having people with shared interests to challenge and support me. I love all the unique challenges the field has to offer, and I am excited to continue my engineering journey here at Pitt.
I have selected the Plus3 program because I want to have a global engineering experience, and this program has been highly reccomended to me by multiple upperclassmen and staff members here at Pitt. After taking a closer look at the program and attending the information sessions, I confirmed that Plus3 is a great opportunity for me because of its focus on engineering. Through this program, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of engineering and how it is utilized in different cultures that I am not familiar with. Additionally, I have always wanted to study abroad but have never found the right opportunity, and I think Plus3 is the perfect opportunity for me.
