Hello Ecuador!

Hello! My name is Meg Holman, and I am from Kutztown, Pennsylvania. I just wrapped up my first year as a College and Business Administration student and am on track to major in Marketing. Fun fact about me, I have only been on a plane once, and that was to go to Disney World as a 17-year-old. 3 months away from being a legal adult.

So, clearly you can tell I have never travelled before, which is why I am so excited for this opportunity! Before we dive into the excitement surrounding this journey, I’d like to introduce myself a bit — maybe offer an explanation as to why I never went on a plane for a real reason. Here at Pitt, I am heavily involved with the university’s very own (and only) late-night comedy show, Pitt Tonight! The club is a conglomeration of things, but starting sophomore year, I will be the host. Though the club takes up most of my time, outside of it, I love to listen to music, write, or sit aimlessly on my friends’ carpet and stare at my MCE assignments. I dabble in MTC and any other theater events that occur throughout the year.

Alike many of you who may be reading this, I love staying busy! This whole trait about me is why I am so excited to set out on this journey to Ecuador. I’ve always wanted to go abroad, but I never knew how to start. When I heard about the Plus 3 Program, I knew immediately that I was going to do it. Ecuador was a location that was brought up and captivated me instantly. Not only do you get to be in the Amazon Rainforest, but you get to sleep in it. That’s the coolest thing I have ever heard. And it’s not just the once-in-a-lifetime experience that the rainforest brings, it’s also the simpler pleasures of walking around old colonial Quito and immersing myself deep into a culture that I am fascinated by. There are not too many programs that allow their students to check so much off their bucket lists in 2 weeks. I can not wait to learn the culture and the way of life of the community we will be seeing and meeting. I am also excited to learn new skills and apply the ones I have now.

I look forward to going on this journey and getting closer to those who are going with me. I can not wait to see how these two weeks shape out. It shall be fun!
