Hola, me llamo Jordan!

Hello everyone! My name is Jordan Gregory, and I’m a freshman here at Pitt. I am a nursing major from Mechanicsville, Virginia, which is about 30 minutes outside of Richmond. I chose to spend the next four years at the University of Pittsburgh because of its outstanding nursing program, beautiful campus, and welcoming community. I can already tell that I will be challenged to grow here, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to develop as a nurse. While I’m still unsure of which nursing specialty I’d like to pursue, I do plan to return to school to become a nurse practitioner.

During my first year at Pitt, I’ve gotten involved in the club cheer team, a Christian fellowship group called Cru, and Pink Warriors. Outside of school, I enjoy staying active, thrifting, and hanging out with friends. I did gymnastics my whole life growing up and now enjoy coaching when I’m home. Additionally, I’ve worked as a lifeguard for the past three summers and currently work as a lifeguard here at the university as well. I’m the youngest in my family and have an older sister and brother. I love traveling, but I’ve only traveled within the U.S. so far, so I’m very excited for my first international experience through this program.

As part of the Plus3 program, I’ll be traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I chose this program because it offers an amazing opportunity to collaborate with students from another major and gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare system. Nursing students are paired with business students, which creates a unique learning environment. In high school, I was part of DECA, a business club that helps students become leaders in marketing. I’m excited to bring what I learned from DECA into this program as well. Learning about Argentina’s healthcare system will help me better serve my future patients in the U.S. This program will prepare me professionally by allowing me to interact with healthcare professionals and collaborate with my peers. I’m also looking forward to growing personally, especially since this will be my first time abroad. I hope to leave this trip having built strong relationships with my peers, developed professionally, and gained confidence in traveling independently. Overall, this program will help me become more prepared to enter the nursing profession and face the challenges of the professional world. I’m so excited — ¡adiós!
