As a rising Sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, I am excited to embark on this study abroad experience in the Netherlands to delve further into my interests. As a Chemical Engineering major, I want to continue pursuing sustainability initiatives as I did during my internship with the National Audubon Society. Integrating environmentalism within engineering practices demonstrates my care for the community around me and I hope to further my knowledge during the Plus3 program.
I always gave my best during my internship, but I was also left with a unique hobby following the job: Bird Watching. Even when I am walking around, I manage to unconsciously identify and observe local birds. Now, bird watching grew to become an avid hobby for myself. The keen perception to details required for this hobby also helps me succeed during classes and as Logistics Lead within Engineers Without Borders: Ecuador at my university. I always attempt to mix my interests with my skill sets to further my academic pursuits.
During the trip with the Plus 3 The Netherlands program, I will work my hardest to learn from what innovations companies utilize to achieve success. I signed up for this program to understand how to improve the sustainability of engineering manufacturing, and I want to coalesce the skillsets from a global perspective to enhance my accomplishments. Engaging with diverse perspectives and knowledge can enhance my understanding as an engineer and person, with this knowledge aiding me in my everyday life for years to come.
As I pack away all my belongings for the trip, I want to leave enough empty space so that I can return with a suitcase brimming with the experience I can gain from this amazing opportunity.
