Hello everybody! My name is Finn Butcher, and I just completed my freshman year at the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration where I am majoring in Accounting with a minor in Geological Information Systems. I am from Mercer County Pennsylvania, but I was born in Columbus Ohio and have only lived in PA for the past 10 years and prior to my time in Pennsylvania, I lived in Shreveport Louisiana. Growing up my family was always traveling out west to Colorado and Wyoming where my family is from, so I have already been very fortunate to see most of the United States and have visited 44/50 states. Internationally I have been to Canada and England, so I am very excited to add a 3rd continent and another country to my life list.
Part of the reason I chose the University of Pittsburgh was for its strong international programs, so I am very excited to be a part of Plus 3 Argentina! While in Buenos Aires we will be studying and learning about the healthcare industry, so I am excited to have the opportunity to explore firsthand the differences in healthcare distribution, financing, and management within the country of Argentina. Specifically, I am interested to see how local municipalities work with both private and public healthcare providers in order to provide care regardless of payment ability. The county I am from and live in has significant challenges with healthcare access given that it is fairly rural so I am interested in seeing what parallels may exist between my home and Buenos Aires.
I have always felt that the best thing I could do for myself professionally and personally was to introduce myself to as many different perspectives and ideas as possible. I strongly believe that participation in this program will not only make me a better student but will make me a far more worldly and competitive candidate professionally. I’m excited for the opportunity to learn from and experience a culture different than my own and I look forward to creating new memories and building connections with people from both Pittsburgh and Buenos Aires.
