Hi, My name is Andela Dozier, and I am from Bucks County, PA (40 minutes outside of philly!). I am an incoming second-year studying Mechanical Engineering in the Swanson School of Engineering. Additionally I am also in the Frederick Honors College and I plan on getting an industrial engineering minor and a sustainability certificate! Some of the things I participate in at Pitt is the Society of Womens Engineer, Panther Racing, and Ballet Club outside of clubs I am also in one of the sororities on campus Tri Delta.
Outside of school I intern at Girls Code the World where I write grant proposals and help teach girls about different STEM topics, hoping to inspire a new generation of women in STEM just like myself. I also really enjoy to read, run, and sing when I get free time. As I am really busy during the school year I don’t normally get the time to do any of these but I love to run around schenley park whenever I have a light schoolwork day. Additionally, I love to explore! I have been to 30 of the states in the United States and I have also been to 5 countries abroad and I can’t wait for the netherlands to be my fifth!
I’ve chosen the Plus3 Netherlands program because it perfectly aligns with my long-standing passion for sustainability, which began in high school when I earned my Girl Scout Gold Award by leading a project focused on environmental conservation. This program offers an exciting introduction to Pitt’s Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainability, allowing me to explore how Dutch industries like flood control, floriculture, and food production integrate sustainable practices into their operations. I’m eager to learn from companies and communities in the Netherlands that prioritize sustainability, and I believe this experience will deepen my understanding of global environmental initiatives while providing a solid foundation for my future academic and professional endeavors in this field.
