Hola Buenos Aires!

Hi! My name is Anna Lao, and I recently completed my first year in the School of Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh! In addition to nursing, I am minoring in Social Work, which I am super excited about. In my free time, I enjoy going to concerts, thrifting, hiking, working out, and spending time with friends and family. I also love traveling. At Pitt, I am involved in Gamma Sigma Sigma (a service sorority), Outdoors Club, Pitt’s Treble Choral Ensemble, and a committee member of CASA (Chinese American Student Association)! After graduating, I plan to work as a travel nurse (specifically in pediatrics or the operating room), and then further my education to become a pediatric nurse practitioner!

I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Plus3 Argentina program this summer! I chose this program because I want to learn more about healthcare systems and delivery beyond the United States. I like how this program focuses on both the medical/delivery and business side of healthcare. Professionally and academically, this opportunity will help me to broaden my understanding of global issues and its impact on healthcare. Personally, I will be exposed to different environments and cultures, which will ultimately help me to become a better nurse. In Buenos Aires, we will be learning about the impacts of globalization on healthcare, major themes in global healthcare, and the impacts of health and economic inequality through hands on experiences.

I am thrilled to learn more about Argentina’s history and rich culture. I am excited to go to museums, site visits, explore the city, and try Argentinian food. I can’t wait to make lifelong memories!
