Hello, Seoul: My First Day

After a long 15-hour flight from Atlanta, I finally arrived in Seoul. I was feeling the jet lag, but I was excited to be here and explore the city. I was especially interested in trying all the food. My first meal was a delicious bowl of Bibimbap. It was my first time ever trying, and I really enjoyed it. After filling up on food in the morning, I got to experience the Seoul subway system for the first time. I could not believe how nice and clean the system was compared to those in the U.S.. The train was very quiet, and some people were even sleeping.

After the subway ride, our first stop was the Gyeongbokgung Palace, where we watched the Changing of the Guard ceremony. The beat from the big drum and the marching of the soldiers in their bright colored uniforms was like stepping back in time. Many other visitors even dressed in traditional attire, and it added to the experience. Once the ceremony ended, we toured the rest of the palace and learned about the different buildings. Following the palace, it was time to tour the Blue House. I enjoyed taking in all the architecture and greenery. The mountains in the background really set the tone of the palace and the Blue House.

Finally, we made our way over to the Tongin Market to get something quick to eat, a busy spot filled with street food vendors. The aroma of all types of food filled the air in the market. The vendors sold all sorts of things from fruits and vegetables to fish and desserts. I tried a fried chicken dish with some sauce, it was almost like General Tso’s chicken, but I am not sure exactly what it was, but it was delicious. We made our way back to the hotel, and I took a much-needed nap. It was a great way to end the day, and I can’t wait for tomorrow.
