While I’m still adjusting to the lack of sleep and the gadgets of the hotel, my experience in Cyprus thus far has been great! The main focus so far has been food and just getting a basic familiarity with the culture. This morning, we enjoyed the view during our breakfast at the hotel, taking in the foliage, sunshine, and city scenery. Just from our window, you can see the mix of both modern and older aspects of the city. Getting to see the University of Nicosia afterwards was a great experience and it was interesting to get an initial glimpse into the different college culture here. One thing I found particularly interesting was how small the University’s campus was, despite being in a major city. I enjoyed getting to learn about Cypriot cuisine and all the influences found from other cultures. I particularly enjoyed the chickpea dish served as the vegetarian option for the main course as part of this activity. Today was a fun introduction to our experience–I’m so excited to continue to learn more about the history, culture, and industries of the island in the coming days.
