Heart of Seoul (Day 2)

Woke up this morning to a delicious breakfast in the hotel where they served common foods with the addition of some BBQ! The first stop of the day was the Ancient Fortress. After a long bus ride, we toured around the fortress, taking dozens of photos and visiting cool historic spots where I was able to learn more about the Korean forces during the early ages. The wall spanned over a few kilometers and was in perfect condition with little to no damage. We had the opportunity to use bow and arrows to shoot at a few targets where I was successfully able to land numerous shots. With the help of my previous archery experience, it was a great experience to perform archery within the walls that bow and arrows were once predominantly used to fight off enemy forces invading South Korea. After the long walk around the fortress, a few others and myself stopped in an authentic noodle house where we all ordered a few different menu items with noodles and Tteokbokki, which was the highlight of the meal. The noodles were in a spicy and sweet form (Jajangmyeon), which were absolutely delicious for how affordable the entire meal was.

Next, we went to the Samsung Innovation Museum. Here, we learned about Samsung’s history and how it is evolving into a smart system powerhouse. The tour guide did a fantastic job at showing us around the headquarters, explaining what each building focuses on and guiding us through the informative museum. It was a great opportunity to see the innovative thinking of the brands appliances and changes to their technology, standing out from others.

Finally, we stopped at Myeong-dong, the giant food and shopping center at the center of Seoul. Here, we had a wonderful, traditional Korean-style dinner with some alumni from Pitt. After eating an abundance of food, we spent the rest of the night shopping for clothes, where I was able to find an awesome pair of pants.
