Xin chào! Tên tôi là Hao!
Today marked the start of our first official site visit and classes. We began our day the same as yesterday, indulging in a warm bowl of pho before we headed off to UEF for our first classes on the history of the Mekong River Delta followed by a language class.
During our first session, we discussed the three main exports of the delta: Fish, Rice, and Fruit. Although these exports serve as some of Vietnam’s leading producers, the Mekong Delta faces three huge problems regarding to its industrial market-global warming, infrastructure, and the recent mass immigration of the regions population contribute to its rapid economic decline. Moving onto our second class of the day, we learned the basics of the Vietnamese language. We learned the alphabet, basic greetings, and simple terms such as Tạm biệt which means “goodbye”. It was incredible being able to learn this fascinating language alongside UEF students. We were able to work alongside them and ask them for help whenever needed and they made the learning environment comfortable and accepting.
After our classes, we had a group lunch with traditional Vietnamese cuisines before we headed to our first official visit at Green Viet. There, we learned about Green Viet’s initiative about green buildings and serving an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional building structures. Their success can be accredited to their recent developments in software engineering and AI usage. With the help of these tools, Green Viet has been able to develop and create these new buildings that produce green benefits and paybacks. Based off of Mr. Quang’s presentation, it can be concluded that Green Viet is not reliant on International Business with most of the companies clients being within the country. Mr. Quang also briefed the implementation of the recent tariffs under the Trump Administration, making it difficult for the collaboration of major corporate companies and businesses abroad.
I found Mr. Quang’s personal professional career quite intriguing, deeply resonating to his progression from the start of his career to now celebrating an entire decade at his company. He spent his first years working for different companies to learn and develop the skills and interests that he eventually utilized at Green Viet. Though our interests and concentrations may vary, I strongly believe that my career path will align similarly to Mr. Quang’s.
The trip to Green Viet was truly a great experience and gave me one of my first insights in how a start up company is organized, how it’s managed, and what impacts they have at a global scale. I am excited to see what tomorrow has in store, but for now, tạm biệt!
