We started the day once again with the delicious hotel breakfast and took the metro to the Bilbao School of Engineering. Today we were fortunate enough to visit multiple student projects to get a better understanding of the work students are doing at the University of the Basque Country. We heard from a student team making a formula 1 type car, a STEAM project creating guitars, and rocket launching!

I think my favorite project was the guitars because I have always been very interested in music and actually took a guitar class in high school. I was able to learn about how these guitars are made from 100% recycled materials and work just as well as normal guitars. From hearing Aiden playing the guitar I can confirm that these guitars truly do sound great. From a more technical side I found this presentation interesting because I felt like I actually understood the physics and science behind how these guitars are actually created. I was able to see and hear a real world example of the type of material I learned in my classes (especially physics 2). Such as understanding how the magnetic field from the pickup basically dictates every aspect to how the guitar sounds. Overall, besides being cool to just make a guitar, I felt I learned more about how physics can be used in real life to make musics.

In the afternoon we went on a walking tour of the old town. I loved hearing about the history of the city from our tour guide, especially since Bilbao was founded in the 1300’s. From learning more about the culture and just taking in the cityscapes it was a worthwhile tour. I still cannot get over how many palm trees I see everywhere! I’m looking forward to another fun day tomorrow!
