We started off the day once again with a great breakfast before heading out around 8:30 AM for our first site visit: Fredit. Operated by hy Co., Ltd., Fredit is a major player in Korea’s food industry, known for producing beverages and dairy products—most famously the Yakult drink. What sets them apart is their drinkable yogurt-like product rich in probiotics and health benefits. During our visit, we were given insider access to their warehouse operations and gained valuable insight into their production line, which impressively averages around 40,000 units per hour. At the end of the tour, we had the chance to sample several of their beverages—and they were as tasty as they were healthy.
After the tour, we took a lunch break at Ilmanho, a traditional shabu-shabu restaurant. The meal featured a flavorful beef and seafood soup alongside a variety of traditional Korean side dishes. To top it off, Dr. Yun generously treated us to ice cream from a nearby convenience store, which was a perfect way to finish the meal.
Our final site visit of the day was at TK Elevator, and it was by far my favorite experience of the trip so far. The tour began with some downtime where we could play table tennis, shoot pool, or even test out their golf simulator. After that, we split into groups to explore different parts of the facility.
My group began with an interactive safety demonstration—a training exercise that employees undergo to address installation hazards. Some peers participated in a “falling” simulator, while a few of us experienced a bungee-assisted drop simulation. Though a bit jarring, it was hilarious and made for some great memories. After that, we visited the company’s test tower, where we saw how elevators are installed and tested in eight different shafts. We even rode shaft #8’s elevator all the way up to the 40th floor, which was an incredible experience. The combination of hands-on learning and entertainment made this visit both informative and unforgettable.
To wrap up the day, a few of us went out for Korean BBQ, enjoying dishes like pork belly, pork ribs, and steak. It was a fun and delicious meal—especially since we got to cook it ourselves.
Overall, it was another memorable day filled with learning, laughter, and amazing food. With an early start tomorrow, I’m calling it a night, but I’m excited for what the rest of the trip has in store.
