On day three, we began with a bus ride to Fredit, a probiotic yogurt company known for producing healthy yogurts enjoyed by people in Korea and worldwide. With three main factories in Korea, we visited the largest one, which was an impressive facility showcasing the company’s advanced production techniques.
The most fascinating part of the tour was witnessing the process of creating yogurt containers and labeling them. This wasn’t just a manual task—it was a highly automated system using cutting-edge technology. In less than a second, a high-speed camera inspected each container for defects. Positioned above the containers, this camera accurately determined whether the top of each cup aligned correctly with the bottom. This rapid inspection ensured that only flawless containers were used for packaging. After this insightful tour, we were treated to samples of Fredit’s yogurt, which was delicious, along with some probiotic powder to take home.
Following our visit to Fredit, we traveled to our next destination, TK Elevators—one of the leading elevator companies in Korea. This company has a rich history of developing innovative elevator systems, and we gained a deep understanding of various types of elevators they produce. One of the standout designs we learned about was the twin elevator system. This system allows two elevator cars to operate independently on a single shaft, significantly improving efficiency by reducing wait times during peak hours.
We also experienced an educational and thrilling simulation where we were dropped into a foam pit, simulating a falling elevator. Despite common fears, we learned that only 2% of elevator-related deaths are caused by falls. Surprisingly, the leading cause of death is electrical incidents.
Our tour concluded at their testing facility—a towering 40-floor building with eight elevator shafts. We even rode one of their high-speed elevators to the top in under 30 seconds, a thrilling experience that showcased the company’s engineering capabilities. Overall, the day was both educational and exciting.
