Today, we finally got to visit the Hyundai Asan factory which I was looking forward to the most out of the company visits on this trip. As soon as we entered the facility, we were surrounded with an innovative environment with some of Hyundai’s newest vehicles. We even got to sit in a few of them, getting us more excited for the tour we were about to embark on. Before the tour, we watched a general summary of how Hyundai wants to be recognized in the automobile industry and I learned the Gensis and IONIQ are part of Hyundai brand. In the tour of the entire production process, we learned about each major point in each of the production lines from cutting the sheet metal, to molding, to assembly, and testing. I thought the tour was exceptionally well done as I was able to understand how they run things a lot better in the entirety of their manufacturing process. It was unique to see all of the robots they had for how automated everything was. What I thought was most interesting was the variety of cars that were being produced at one time and in no particular order. This helped me recognized the smart systems in place to know what car frame is coming into the next part of the production line for the robots to know what they have to do specifically for that model.
After the Hyundai tour, we stopped a rest stop where I got to enjoy some sweet and spicy fried chicken. Unluckily, the worker gave me more than I ordered and we only had a little bit of time to eat before we got back on the road. Thankfully, Dr. Yun waited with me and enjoyed some of the chicken with me! After the rest of the bus ride to the Han River, we got bento boxes which possessed multiple different food items that were delicious. Before the cruise, we had time to play a few games of hacky sack which was super fun to kill the time before cruising on the river. Once we got on the boat, we admired the beautiful views of the city surrounding us, taking pictures and even feeding some of the birds!
