Day 5: Kourion and Exploring Limassol

Today, we left Nicosia to head to Limassol and upon arriving, I could already tell how different it was being near a sea as opposed to Nicosia where it was more city like. The first thing we did in Limassol was explore the archeological ruins of Kourion. We were shown the theatre there which I thought was very interesting and I had recalled seeing a similar theatre when I was in Pompeii in Italy. I thought it was interesting that they used to hold not only plays but also gladiator tournaments there.

We then headed to more of Limassol and found some free time to have a delicious lunch at a restaurant of our choosing. After that, we met at the Limassol castle to have a guided tour of it. The castle was filled with various cannons and it was cool to think about it having used to be a defensive military site. The castle was very old and it was cool getting to see a lot of the rooms filled with ancient artifacts. One fact I remember is Georgia explained one of the rooms with some religious artifacts in it that when the bread and wine was served at Greek Orthodox church it was from the same chalice which is not the traditional way I am used to.
