Kourion and Castles – Day 5

Today was a really fun combination and site visits and tours to both Kourion and the Limassol Castle. At Kourion we got to see an original amphitheater, which was surreal in person. Seeing pictures of these types of things feel completely different from actually being there. The view from the area it was was beautiful as well, with a huge plain and the Mediterranean. While we were there we also saw the inside of a house and learned all about what people would do inside said building. There were mosaics, places for people to wash their feet in water, cold showers, hot baths, and bedrooms.

Later, we reached the Limassol Castle. On the way to Kourion we actually got to see the outside of the Kolossi Castle too, which was really cool. Inside the Limassol Castle was a huge chamber filled with artifacts, followed by a series of hallways and rooms. We learned about the depictions of religious figures inside the castle, and how that differed from past interpretations we had seen. After that we went to the roof and got a great view of the entire city and the edge of the sea.
