Going into today we knew it was going to be a rainy day so we came prepared to our only visit of the day which was Yonsei university. Yonsei university is the 3rd best university in Seoul and has an under 5% acceptance rate. Dr Yun was able to get us a wide variety of tours here because of his connections to the university. When we first arrived we went straight to the dining hall to get lunch. They had a ton of options we could choose from. I personally got the fried shrimp and rice as well as the fried chicken. After we ate we stopped by the cafe where I got an ice-cream waffle which was absolutely delicious. This food was much better than what we get at Pitt to say the least!

After eating we met with our first tour guide who gave us a general tour of campus and some of the buildings. She told us about the history of the university and how they are very grateful for americans because some of the Korean War was fought here. Also, it was interesting to see how many foreign students attended this school because a lot of americans have close ties to this university. The next tour we went on was a tour of the engineering building. As an engineer I was very excited for this part and it did not disappoint. During our tour we were able to see the type of research that they conduct as well as the machines that they are the most proud of. They showed us plenty 10 million dollar plus machines in one room which blew me away. Right after this tour we got to get a specific tour of one of Dr Yuns colleges Dr Cheong. Dr Cheong studied Bioengineering at Pitt and is now a professor at Yonsei and we were able to tour her lab where they do neuroscience research. Specifically, they do research on alzheimer’s and stress responses with mice brains. This was incredible to see and really made me excited for getting able to do research myself. During this time we were able to ask questions about the university to her students and see how they felt about being students here. After a packed day we made the journey back to the hotel in the rain and called it a night from there. Thanks for reading my blog and I am looking forward to tomorrow!
