Elevating our Elevation

Day 4 of our trip started with us venturing to the Otravelo markets. We were open up by the sound of roosters again. The markets were packed with sellers and merchandise. I was determined to find a magnet for a dollar, and I eventually made a deal with a seller to get 2 for 3 with my friend. I helped my friends haggle with the sellers for better deals. Overall, it was a great time exploring the markets.

After our time in the market, we went to a coffee shop where I was looking to buy some coffee beans for my parents. The coffee shop was amazing, even though I did not order anything, the drinks looked amazing. We also played some Uno that the coffee shop had lying around.

Then we were off to a waterfall, which was the same waterfall as the magnet I bought in the market. Our tour guide fist told us about the native indigenous people of the area then we were off. The waterfall was really beautiful and we eventually ended up at some camp where there was a zipline. Some people took the zipline, and we eventually left for the condor park. We were late to the aviary show, so we went and explored the rest of the park. Professor. Glenn knew everything about the birds we were seeing explaining every species with intricate details. After a quick rest back at our hotel, we had some excellent dinner at an American style restaurant. When we came back the hotel staff were nice enough to invite us to a celebration for their culture. It was great fun as we drank traditional drinks and danced

Day 5 was a travel trip. Right after breakfast we left on the bus towards the lodge. On our way we stopped at the equator line museum which offered great insights on how the equator and sun works. Next up we had to say goodbye to our excellent guide Gabby who was instrumental in our experience and someone who I will look back fondly. A gas station offered us a chance to refuel and we were on to Rio Napo. Elevation has always been a factor in this trip but I was fine with it until we went up to the 13300 ft in Rio Napo. It was very hard to beathe but it was stunning, one of the most beautiful places I have seen.ˇThe hot springs were absolutely amazing, I have never seen an assortment of very hot to very cold pools. it was so relaxing and fun, we also ate some very good lunch here. We were behind schedule so it was a race to get to our other destination before the lodge which was the cloud forest, unfortunately we arrived too late and it was already dark but Professor Glenn said we would come back. At this point we arrived in the lodge but there was still some time to brave the dark in the Amazon and find some bugs.

Day 6 started off with a lecture by the lodge owner after breakfast. It was really insightful to see all the history behind his personal life, the culture, the area, the people and the lodge. It really showed how deep the history is in places that are often overlooked. We had the opportunity to try some ceramics, something I was not very good at. Finally we had some free time to relax and eat lunch. Afterwards, Professor Glenn hosted us for a lecture about chocolate and we were off to eat some real cacao beans. I accidently ate some of the seeds but all in all it was a great experience! Now we are soon to eat dinner and rest. It has been great fun! – Rohan
