Day 6: Yonsei Uni

Friday May 16th, 2025

Today we also had a later start of 9.20 which was nice as we could sleep in and have a decent amount of time for breakfast. The weather today was very bad and was raining very heavily all day. We set out for the university by taking the metro and bus, having the total time to get there about 45 minutes. We arrived just in time for lunch where we ate in one of the 3 cafeterias on the campus. The cafeteria had different food stalls that you could pick from, I got a pork noodle soup that came with rice and fried pork ball situation. There were also bars where you could self serve kimchi and bean sprouts. The lunch was very good and a lot better than what most American schools provide, they gave full meals with good and nice service. They also had a plethora of different cafes across campus serving sweets and coffee. We also got a tour of the university where we saw the 3 oldest buildings where each one was named after a different American Christian missionary that helped in founding the school, the initials of the 3 buildings spelt out USA. We got to see the business building which is one of the newer buildings and was very modern and nice. Our tour had to be cut short due to the rain so we had extra free time to roam the merch store and see what they had to offer. We also got to speak to a professor that got her PhD at Pitt and get a tour of her lab where she is working with mice to see how their brains are affected by different things. During this time we were also able to speak to 4 different university students and ask they questions, I thought this part was very interesting as we all got to ask about university life there and general questions about Korea and their way of life. The Q and A section with the students was eye opening into how at a similar age there are so many factors of life that are similar and different. The campus overall was quite big and beautiful as it had a mixture of old and new buildings. Unfortunately on the way back to the hotel the weather continued to be sucky and rain heavily so a few of us decided to order in food and watch tv having a relaxing night before our busy day tomorrow. But overall today was interesting as I got to see how college students in Korea live and function even though the weather was subpar.
