We weren’t as lucky with our weather today as the previous days of the trip. It rained and stormed all day long during our visit to Yonsei University. We started with a tour of the campus where we saw the business building and other academic buildings. I was surprised by how big the university was and how many students went there. Also, their tuition was significantly lower than universities in the United States. We had lunch in one of the campus cafeterias where I had shrimp and fried rice. Then we had time to go into the campus store where I got a blue t-shirt that said Yonsei University. Next we went on a tour of the engineering building and it was cool to compare it to the Swanson School of Engineering at Pitt. We were then invited to Professor Cheong’s lab where we learned about their research involving mice brains such as taking brain scans of a mouse with Alzichemers. We got to see the lab and heard from students working there about what their work consisted of. There was also time for Q & A with undergraduate students where they told us about their experience at a Korean university. One of them was even an exchange student who grew up in Argentina. It was cool to learn how much older the students at Yonsei were, some not starting college until they were 20 and graduating when they were 24.

For dinner I went to a Mcdonald’s near our hotel and it was pretty similar to the ones in the United States but it was cool to experience Mcdonald’s in a different country. I also got a chocolate Hershey ice cream bar from a convenience store. I am hoping for better weather tomorrow for our visit to Bukchon Hanok Village.
