We had another early start today with a long bus ride to Continental. Once we got going we started with a lecture from one of the project managers at the company. He talked about how his role focused on improving efficiency and switching a lot of the work over to machines. He also showed us some of the electronics that are produced and it was interesting to see how complex the computers were and how small and yet powerful they were.
After the lecture we got to tour the factory and see how the microchips are made. They create around 500000 of them every day which is honestly hard to even imagine. It was really amazing to see all of the robots in action and how smooth and organized the process was. There was a mix of automation and human work which showed how even the most high-tech systems still need humans to keep things running.
After Continental we drove to Regensburg where we had some free time and a city tour. My favorite part of the day was seeing the Regensburg Cathedral. It was massive and absolutely stunning. The inside was filled with stained glass and the sound of the organ music playing gave me goosebumps. It felt like stepping into another world. It was definitely one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
During my free time I got a strawberry gelato and walked outside through the city enjoying the sun. It was one of those perfect little moments where everything felt peaceful. For dinner I tried German McDonalds and noticed that it tasted a little different from the US. They also had some unique menu items and way more dessert options which was fun to see.
Today was another busy day but full of new and memorable experiences. I’m still amazed at how much we’ve already seen in just a few days.
