The day started off with a visit to Continental and going into this trip I would’ve expected us to see a tire plant but instead we saw the production of computer boards that are found in cars. The lecture gave great insight on aspects of the supply chain in Germany. It brings up the question though, is it the most efficient solution to produce these in Germany? Other companies do this for much cheaper in Asia. When comparing this to the MAN factory a few things stick out. The number of workers was generally similar at both, but it seemed the Continental factory had a few more robots all throughout. The levels of automations where much different. This could have to do with the size of the unites being produced. All in all the factories gave a very different take on automation and what robots could do.
Next was the beautiful old town of Regensburg. This city was special because it had not seen any bombing in the town center during WWII. My favorite part was seeing the buildings that would bow and sit at angles. It brings up the question, how long will they stand? We also toured the Old Town Hall in the center which was a blast. Seeing the torture chambers was really unique. Until you see it in person, dungeons are only really prevalent in media in America. Walking around a city as beautiful as Regensburg was definitely a top experience for me so far on the trip.
