Day 4: continental and regensburg

Tuesday we woke up and headed to the town of Regensburg for the day to learn about continental and visit the town.

First, we visited continental which is a company that is mainly known for tires, but this factory specialized in chips that help the car function. This was very interesting and surprising to me as I had never thought about that aspect of car manufacturing and just how many small parts play such a crucial role in car manufacturing.

After learning more about what is produced, we did a walking tour of the factory with an awesome man guiding us who had worked at continental for over 40 years. before we even entered we had to protect our feet and test them on a device that would determine if our shoes would cause problems for the factory. It surprised me how such small issues like what shoes someone is wearing can have on the factory, when our feet do not even touch the machinery.

After our tour and lecture, we then had time to explore Regensburg which was a beautiful city. It was one of the only major cities in that had not been bombed in WWII and it was really crazy to think about how long those buildings had been in that place. It makes me think about all of the people who had lived or worked in those buildings and how much history is packed into the city.
